|The Color Exhibition presents four artists and their divergent relationships to color and a classic goldsmith technique: enamel. Camilla Luihn, Anne Léger, Carolina Gimeno and Heejoo Kim use enamel in their work but their artistic intentions differ. Mastering enamel requires knowledge, curiosity and a certain dose of discipline. The use of this medium itself is not the main driving force behind practises of these artists, but the technique has a tangible presence and is reflected in the aesthetics of the works.|
Camilla Luihn (NO) works with enamel in combination with pierced and textured metals. She uses traditional enamelling in combination with contemporary techniques, which gives her the opportunity to experiment with color, texture and imagery. She has a strong relationship to the history of Norwegian enamelling.
Carolina Gimeno’s (CL/SE) practice involves interpreting the traditional craft values of the jewellery field in a contemporary way. By doing this, she allows conventional materials and techniques like enamelling, to attain a contemporary aesthetic.
Anne Léger (FR/NO) works with abstract expressions using wood, silver, copper, stone and enamel. Her jewellery includes an investigation of the relationship between geometry and natural materials like wood and stone in which the colors are often contrasted with natural shades. She exploits the colors of the materials themselves and the glazed, clear or manipulated surfaces to create subtle contrasts or pure, exquisite coloristic compositions.
Heejoo Kim (KR) is fond of color. She likes color that has a reaction to fire. The chemical reaction that takes place during the burning process of enamel at high temperatures gives the impression that familiar colors we know are being reborn. Creating color is a pleasant and special experience for Heejoo Kim.
Gallery PLATINA was established 1999 to provide an audience the art of jewellery. Since the start, a large number of international jewellery artists have been invited to exhibit in Stockholm. During the years we have been working with artists and clients from all over the world and we have been working outside the gallery as well, with exhibitions, popup events, fairs, experimental projects, lectures, education, seminars and more.
